Adventurous

Robert E. Todd; Path

By being adventurous,I have learned that there is a path that you must go for in life. If you are willing to follow your path, you can do what ever you want to find out about yourself and find out what your destiny is. Santiago went on on his own path to find his destiny, and realizes that the journey taught him about himself. As for me, I'm on a journey to find out about myself, too.So far, my life has been full of travel of my father's work, which seems to be part of my destiny. I like the path that I'm on right now, and it's a wonderful thing to know about myself, but sometimes it makes me want to stop and stay where I want to. But right now, that is a dream that won't come true. I must stay with my family, and continue whats part of my destiny. Right now, my dream is to go back to Japan, and meet my grandparents. As my journey goes on, I would like to find out a lot of things about myself, like Santiago did. I would like to go on and complete my journey, maybe a few years later.

Finding out yourself“

I’d like to see the castles in the towns where they live and I’d like to see their land and see how they live.”(Coelho, 8,9) Santiago is a boy who wants to travel around the world, and see the pyramids. He saw the same dream twice that he was in the field with his sheep, when a child appeared and began to play with his sheep. The child went on playing with his sheep for quite a while, and suddenly the child took him by both hands and transported him to the Egyptian pyramids. Santiago interpreted this dream to mean that there was a treasure he must seek in Egypt and that it was his destiny to go to Egypt to claim the treasure. He leaves Spain and bound for Egypt to find out his treasure and his destiny. On his journey, he meets a lot of people that give him clues to find his treasure. Going on, he learns about love, finding about himself, and learning to make his own decisions. Santiago finds his destiny because he takes risks and is determined.Santiago’s willingness to take risks drives him out of his safety nest and into the unknown world. He was willing to give away his sheep in order to travel freely. “ ‘It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting,’ he thought.” (10) Santiago bravely goes out and seeks his destiny and finds his treasure. Even though he gives up his safe life, he listens to the omens and the omens are telling him to go out and find his treasure. On his journey, Santiago meets Melchizedek, the King of Salem. Melchizedek tells Santiago to give him a tenth of his flock and go to Egypt to find his hidden treasure. After he heard about his hidden treasure, Santiago is ready to go out on his journey and go find out about new places. While Santiago is a risked person, he is also a determined person.Santiago’s determined personality guides him to his treasure and helps him to hack trough his destiny. He finally finds his treasure in Spain and he digs for hours and hours. While he is digging, he gets attacked by refugees. One of the refugees says to Santiago, ‘I was told that if I dug at the roots of the sycamore, I would find a hidden treasure. But I’m not stupid as to cross an entire desert just because of a recurrent dream.’( p 175) the refugees told Santiago that no matter how Santiago digs, he will never find his treasure there. But Santiago never gave up. He dug for hours after the refugees left, and finally he finds his treasure.Santiago gets his treasure and find outs his destiny at the end because he takes risks and is determined. By taking risks, Santiago gets a clue of where his treasure is, and by being determined, he finds his treasure and his destiny. Paulo Coelho wanted to tell us that if you never give up, you will always find your treasure and your destiny.
